It's Official!   We Are Now
AWARD-WINNING FILMMAKERS!!!

UPDATE!!!
"Studying For Finals" Ranked # 15 in
the State of Georgia

5 Schools.  450 Films.  Only 15 advance to the Fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta.

On March 3, 2005, Loading Screen Productions accomplished the incredible...a repeat showing.  Less than a month after winning the Gold Award at the UGA level of Campus MovieFest 2005 (and beating out 52 other films to do so), Loading Screen Productions advanced to the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, where "Studying For Finals" was shown on a 20 foot screen to an audience of hundreds, beating out over 435 other films for the honor of being screened.

That's right.  Within 30 days, our film was shown at two major venues -- The Classic Center in Athens, GA and The Fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA.  And, we took the Gold Award at the Classic Center for UGA and ranked number 15 in the state...all in our FIRST film-festival ever.

What's more is that we didn't set out to win.  That is, we didn't create a film to win.  We made a film we had wanted to do for some time, tweaked the writing just a tiny bit to fit the theme so we'd be eligible, then entered.  Other teams crafted their project from the beginning to win the competition, but we just did what we always do -- we made a film we wanted to make and then just submitted that.  Not bad for our first showing ever.

I even filmed it playing on the big screen at the Fox.  That's right, the first film I ever pirated was my own.  Now I just have to worry about myself suing myself.  Anyhow, if you'd like to see the film, it's below.  You can also go to www.campusmoviefest.com and view it there and rate it.  And if you'd like to see the 'pirated' version, keep an eye out for the Under Your Bed Season 1 DVD to be available later this year and look through all the special features.  You just might find it.

It was a Loading Screen Productions night as CrasH took second place in his first film festival ever!!!!

That's us.  That is Team Loading Screen Productions.  And that's me on the far left end there, hanging with my crew.  I'm still in costume, as is my partner "The Fury" on the far right end.  And we are the ones responsible for "Studying For Finals," which, much to our surprise (and trust me, that is an understatement), won the gold medal second place at the UGA MovieNite for Campus MovieFest 2005.

More than 100 teams entered.  Over 60 films competing for the top spots.  Did we even stand a chance?

We got there early.  We settled in.  Well, everyone else did.  I was literally bounding off chairs and things.  Especially when still frames from our film showed up on the screen.  Then the night started.  Film after film showed, including one that ripped off our idea of doing an old-school silent film.  The Fury and I were pissed.  Period.  We nearly left.  Then, as films played, we saw some that didn't do anything for us, and several that were very good.  And since those played before the top three, and we thought some of those were better than ours, we were pretty sure we weren't going to win.  Again, we nearly left.  A gorgeous new friend, Nikki, did leave, but she had compelling reasons and the fact that she came and supported Team Loading Screen at all says volumes.  Nikki, I am so glad you came.  And how could I forget Miss Suzanne from class?  This woman is such a blessing on my life.  I don't deserve her.  I know it.  Thanks so much.  Sitting with us, supporting us, made it so worthwhile.

Then, they announced the 3rd place winner.  It was pretty good.  I really dug it.  Then the school mascot got in a fight with another version of our mascot over who was going to hand over the 2nd place winning envelope.  It was funny, but we weren't really paying attention.  After all, by this point, we were pretty sure we'd lost.  Then, the unthinkable happened--the MC announced that "the second place winner is, 'Studying For Finals', by Loading Scre."  That's as much as I heard, as everything else was drowned out by the string of expletives coming from my shocked team, and of course, me screaming like a little girl and falling out of my chair at the news.

We were escorted to the back of the stage where we watched our film play from the back of the screen (backwards for us, forwards for the audience), assuring us that yes, we had indeed actually won 2nd place, the gold medal (first is platinum, third is silver).  As the audience watched and laughed, we all stumbled around in the back, incapable of believing we had actually won the thing.  You should have seen us.  All of us sitting there, ready to go, starting to tune out everything as the fact that we were going to lose sank in.  Then, the announcement that changed everything.  We absolutely lost it.  And that's what we tried to talk about as we headed backstage.  But again, we were all in shock....and excited.  And rightfully so.

As the film ended and the lights came up, we took the stage.  Then, the unbelievable happened.  I was speechless.  Literally.  I am good with words, and had actually been fantasizing about winning and what I'd say.  But then, it happened, and I just barely got words to come out.  I tried to be gracious, thanking each member of my cast and crew by name.  Many of them spoke.  Cody said something memorable.  The Fury pimped the website.  I thanked everyone and we sat down.

So, as it stands, we're the 2nd best film at UGA....only one other was better than ours according to the judges.  While there's some confusion about the certainty of this, I believe it means we advance to the statewide grand finale at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta on March 3, to compete with the top films from schools all over the state.  We won iPod Shuffles.  And we were interviewed by the Red and Black (see Monday, 2/14 edition).  And, we are now OFFICIALLY award-winning filmmakers!

INTERESTING NOTE--JUST HOW HARDCORE ARE WE?  HOURS AFTER WINNING, WE WERE ON THE ROAD, 150 MILES THAT NIGHT, TO SHOOT MORE 'STORY OF THE SWORD.'  WE NEVER STOP, NOT EVEN FOR A SECOND.  WE MAKE FILMS FOR THE LOVE OF MAKING FILMS.

Also, keep an eye out.  There were a number of other good films.  Some showed; some didn't.  But they were good, so good, that as soon as we get all the nit-picky stuff taken care of, The Fury and I will be hosting some of our favorites here, on www.crashandthefury.com

And as always, I'd love to hear from you.  Drop me a line or come visit, or find me on AOL Instant Messenger.
